SECURITY fencing has been installed around a prominent building in Trowbridge that has lain derelict for more than 15 years.

The fencing was put up around the former town bridge garage site at Wicker Hill prior to work starting on its possible redevelopment later this year.

HG Ventures Ltd of Bath, trading as Total Bathrooms, wants to convert the ground floor into a retail showroom.

The upper floors will be converted into a bar if the company gains planning permission from Wiltshire Council.

Other parts of the property will be turned into ancillary storage and workshops, says the company’s planning consultant Chris Beaver, of Planning Sphere in Bath.

The redevelopment also includes a rear first-floor extension and balcony; a sedum roof and a roof-mounted solar PV to rear commercial buildings.

Units 6 and 7 will be re-roofed and there will be a new shopfront on the ground floor with associated replacement windows and doors and ground floor balcony.

Outside, the company is hoping to provide associated hard and soft landscaping, including the formation of service vehicle set down, and two disabled parking spaces.

Chris Beaver, of Planning Sphere, said they are waiting for noise surveys to be completed before submitting a revised planning application.

They are hoping for a decision by the end of October.
