A planning application for 28 homes in Studley that was rejected by Wiltshire Council at the end of August was re-submitted on Thursday.

The former Blounts Court nursery site is owned by the Trustees of the Bowood Reversioners Trust and has had planning permission for a commercial garden centre since 2004.

Bowood estate manager Charles Leather said: “When the Blounts Court application was originally considered, the council was of the view that it could demonstrate a five-year housing land supply.

“However, following the publication of the Abberds Lane, Calne, appeal decision, the council now concedes that this is not the case.

“This fresh application also confirms that the proposed noise attenuation measures at Vastern Sawmill and the pedestrian crossing on the A4 and an associated traffic regulation order will be dealt with by way of a Section 106 Agreement.”

But worries remain in the Studley Action Group, which successfully opposed the plans for the brownfield site.

Group member Janet Robbins said: “We remain concerned about the impact of a 60mph road having a pedestrian crossing at the brow of the hill with children trying to cross the road to go to school. The group met again at the weekend and will continue to support the community in its campaign against the potential destruction of our small rural village.”
