SAVERNAKE Forest’s ancient Big Belly Oak is one of the famous trees that has been shortlisted by the Woodland Trust in its contest to find England’s Tree of the Year.
The tree, which has a girth of 10.8m and could date to Saxon times, is well known by drivers travelling on the A346 and was recognised by the Tree Council in 2002 when it was named as one of 50 Great British Trees.
The final ten shortlisted trees were chosen by experts at the Woodland Trust, National Trust, Ancient Tree Forum, Natural England and Tree Register.
People can vote for it to win the contest until November 4 at woodlandtrust.org.uk/vote
