Box opened their Wiltshire League Division one campaign with a resounding 8-wicket victory over Sutton Veny.

Batting first Sutton Veny struggled against the opening pair of Rob Styles (2 for 28) and Dave Crawford (2 for 27), who took two wickets apiece to leave the home side on 38 for 4.

Some resistance was found in the middle order as Henins (33) and Cooke (25) both got good starts to take the home side to 75 for 5, until Henins was removed by Gerald Hayward (2 for 17).

The introduction of medium pacer Prasenjit Ganguly, making his debut for Box, paid dividends as he took 4 wickets to leave Veny 113 all out and with only 2 batting points and SEVEN bowling points to Box.

In reply Box raced to 20 within two overs before Ganguly was caught and bowled by Nash for 15, leaving captain Dave Kelly (20) and Tony Trotman to pursue the small target.

Kelly succumbed to a catch at Mid off, off the bowling of Robson, and it was left to Trotman (36 no) and Gerald Hayward (33 no) to pass the required total with ease inside 23 overs.

  • Box entertained Bristol Civil Service in Sunday's friendly game and ran out winners by 38 runs. Batting first, Box amassed 208 for 6 off 40 overs with Ganguly hitting his first 50 for the club with a superb 81 not out and club stalwhart Gerald Hayward smashing 41 not out.

In reply, Bristol fell short on 170 all out, with Matt Dancey taking 3 wickets, Ganguly 2 wickets and 2 run outs.

This Saturday sees Box at home to a much-improved Cooper Avon Tyres team who have enjoyed promotions in recent seasons.

Box should welcome back Malcolm Bond, Rob Mason and Tim Bligh to the team this week and should also give a first team league debut to Matt Dancey.

Box also play a 20-over friendly this Thursday evening against Bath Rugby Academy. The game was organised by ex Bath Rugby star Chris Lilley, who owns the Bear pub in the village.

The match should provide a decent warm up before Box start their 20-over knockout cup campaign the following Tuesday against Bradford Town.
