Former Calne town councillor Ellie Bland, who was suspended from the Tory party for sending a racist e-mail, has not been re-elected.

Instead fellow UKIP candidates John Ireland and Jill Martin and Conservatives Andrea Pier and Caroline Ramsey have filled the four Lickhill ward seats.

Fellow Lickhill councillor Peter Dolman of the Liberal Democrats was not re-elected either.

But Mrs Bland, 50, says the outcome is down to the volume of new families in Calne and not because of the controversy surrounding the e-mail.

She plans to wait until the next by-election to stand again.

The UKIP supporter, whose husband Dave was successfully re-elected, said that because Lickhill ward has doubled in the last four years, nobody knew of her previous efforts in the area.

She said: "Myself and the my fellow UKIP candidates for Lickhill covered 1,800 houses in that area and many residents had only been living there for a matter of months.

"These people wouldn't know about the ongoing campaign for improved paving, or any of the other causes I have supported in that area."

Mrs Bland was suspended from the Tories after a controversial e-mail was sent from her e-mail account to Tory colleagues and, in error to a Liberal Democrat, whose party made it public.

The poem, written in pidgin English, says: "Welfare cheques - they make you wealthy! NHS - it keep you healthy! By and by, I get plenty money. Thanks to you, British dummy!"

Mrs Bland remained defiant saying the poem was not intended to be offensive but highlighted the issues surrounding illegal immigration.

New councillors Tory Alan Hill, UKIP candidate David Short, and Lib Dems Amanda and Paul Venton have taken on the seats at Calne's Marden ward.

Conservative Charles Boase, of The Green, is a new addition for Priestly ward and stood alongside veteran councillors Mercy Baggs and Dave Bland of UKIP.

Quemerford Ward has welcomed three new councillors, Lib Dem Howard Marshall and Tories Emily Pieroux and Helen Plenty.

Council stalwart Conservative Tony Trotman swapped his former ward at Quemerford for Calne's Chilvester ward where he has taken a seat alongside Lib Dem Heather Canfer.

Abberd Ward has seen one new candidate, Carol Robinson, Lib Dem, take a seat alongside Conservative deputy mayor Roy Golding and Lib Dem Colin Viner.
