COOMBE End Court care home in Marlborough is investing £200,000 to improve their delivery of care for residents with dementia.

As well as providing additional training and support to staff, The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT), who run the home in London Road, will be working with an Admiral Nurse who specialises in caring for people with dementia.

The OSJCT also wants to improve the staff and visitor experience at the home and is creating a ‘destination area.’ This will include a café/bistro, cinema and informal seating area.

They will be revamping their shop and the whole home will be having refurbishment work carried out and the project is expected to be completed by the end of March.

The announcement comes several months after the Care Quality Commission visited the home and inspectors rated it as 'requiring improvement.'

“We are all very excited about this project,” said assistant operations director Robin Khokhar.

“It is our intention to create a centre of excellence to showcase best practice in dementia care, providing both an environment appropriate for people with dementia and for the delivery of good dementia care.

“We consider that this investment, and the work in progress will help Coombe End Court to accomplish those aims.”
