DESPITE coming off air two months ago Calne community radio station Eartunes has been saved after the White Hart Inn gave up one of its bedrooms converting it into a brand new studio.

Following director Ade Truelove’s decision to bring all broadcasts to a halt two months ago, White Hart owners Rebecca and David Leaning decided to step in and save the station, which has been running since 2009.

Mr Truelove, 55, took the difficult decision to close Eartunes after realising he was no longer able to support the station, which he was transmitting from his own home in Hungerford Road.

He said: “It was really just not practical to keep it in my house anymore. It really does give the wrong impression if you are doing an interview with the mayor in a spare bedroom in your house.

“Really David has rescued it. I really needed the space at home and the financial responsibility was quite a lot.

“It is a great thing that he is doing for the community and it would have been a shame to see it go but he has given it a new lease of life.

“I am undecided whether I will go back on air but I will stay on as the engineer to keep it all going. It is just hard to commit the time necessary to a specific slot.”

The official opening will be next Tuesday, when the station is set to go live with broadcasts around the clock.

Mr Leaning said: “We are more than happy to take in the radio station. We want to do something for this town and we see this as a community asset.

“We want to get the whole of the population of Calne involved in it and we have a number of slots going for people that may want to give it a go.

“We are more than happy to give training on a one to one basis. We want to be a single source of truth for the town.”
