MEMBERS of the Alzheimer’s Support club in Devizes were given an unexpected helping hand in identifying their latest garden resident.

After some deliberation over the species of the bird which has decided to make its nest in the gardens of the club in Sidmouth Street, Stephany Bardzil, the communications manager at the club, decided to get some outside help via social media.

Mrs Bardzil said: “There was a debate over which sort of bird this was, some saying it was a thrush and others saying it was a blackbird.

"So I went on Twitter and put the question to Chris Packham who came straight back with an answer for us and letting us know it was a blackbird.

“It was lovely, a real spur of the moment thing. It would be great if he was able to come down and tell us in person at some point too.”

The garden, located at the back of the day club, was created by volunteers from what was originally plain concrete. Since its renovation, the garden has won its category in Devizes in Bloom for three years in a row as well as receiving a special commendation from the Royal Horticultural Society last year.
