‘MINDLESS’ vandals have broken into Calne Town Football Club causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

Club chairman Simon Gardener caught three of the vandals in the act as he entered the ground late on Sunday evening where he saw three teenage girls who had smashed several chairs in the main stand.

On seeing the chairman, who labelled the incident an act of mindlessness, the girls ran-off and jumped over the perimeter fencing fleeing the ground, in Bremhill View, over the back.

Mr Gardener said: “We got a call from a member of the public saying they could hear some loud banging so I went up and I could hear a lot of noise.

“I saw three teenage girls running out from the stalls but the damage was done. I went over to have a look and they had kicked in the back of the seats and smashed the picket barrier.

“It is completely mindless, there is no reason for them to do it. I am sickened, disappointed and down-right disgusted.

“They were sitting on the back row and kicking through the backs of the seats in front. They just let out the rubbish bins seemingly for the fun of it but we are not really certain why they have done it.”

Calne Town Football Club currently play in the Toolstation Western League First Division and finished 15th last season on 52 points.

They had been planning to make certain refurbishments during the summer break but the works will have to be postponed as the club attempts to repair the damage.

“There have been quite a few other times that people have damaged it and we have had to replace stuff before,” he added.

“The club is owned by volunteers and this is our time that we are going to have to waste on putting this all right again.

“They are empty people but we are hoping that now we have got the police involved they will be able to find who has done it.

“There is CCTV footage and they think that they may be able to find the people.”
