SIXTH form leavers at Devizes School had a day to remember on Friday as they first dressed for laughs at a spoof festival in the Quad and then dressed to the nines for their prom.

Students went for a smart formal look with the girls in party dresses and the boys in suits and ties.

Student Emma Crudge arrived in style on a tractor driven by friend Sam Goss.

Earlier in the day the dress was rather more flamboyant when the students staged Evanstock - in tribute to head of sixth form Glenn Evans.

Everything from high drama in Elizabethan costumes to an Abba-tribute band was performed on the stage in the sunshine as the students said their goodbyes.

Headmaster Phil Bevan, who joined the school after Easter, tweeted: "This is why I love Devizes School."

He later said: "I have only got to know the Y13 students over this term, so a very short amount of time considering some of them have been at the school for nearly seven years, whilst many joined us two years ago.

"They have made a big impression upon me, they are a bright, considerate and engaging group of young people.

"They are fantastic ambassadors for Devizes School and the town itself. We are very proud of them. We are possibly also looking at a record set of results this year as well. The Sixth Form Prom is a wonderful occasion for all of us to celebrate their hard work and dedication, they deserve it."

The students were also wished the best for the future by other staff who said: "Best wishes to all of our Year 13 students as they venture off to the various universities and colleges.

"We look forward to welcoming you back in December for your awards evening and exam certificate presentation."

Student ambassador Laura Barr said: "The year 13 leavers prom was a giant success, with the entire year bar one person attending, many teachers and good food.

"Sixth form awards were given out, personal to the year, and there was a real sense of unity within the year and acknowledgement of it being the last time seeing each other.

"The sixth form ambassadors had been planning alongside our 'Evanstock' last day since last year, but the stress paid off, as everyone had lots of fun dancing to classic songs and enjoying company."
