DEVIZES and surrounding villages will be having a right royal knees up to help the Queen celebrate her 90th birthday.

Nationally there will be three days of celebrations to mark her official birthday on June 11 and in Devizes it will be no different.

The whole of Bromham has been invited to a party at St Nicholas School on June 10.

Head Hilary MacMeekin said: "We are having an open afternoon at school as part of the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations, to which we have invited the village.

"We will be wearing red white and blue, there will be a bake off competition in the morning and tea and cakes in the afternoon, traditional games, a showcase of the children’s talents and some whole school songs."

But Potterne believes its fete the following day titled The Right Royal Bash will be the place to be be.

Church youth worker Steve Dewar said: "The event of the year in Potterne is taking place on 11th June at 2 pm.

"All are welcome to come and join us for great stalls, some bargains, the usual fun and games and a hog roast at 6pm with entertainment."

Money raised from the party at George's Day's Field, Mill Road, will go to St Mary's Church.

In the evening in Bromham a beacon to mark the Queen's birthday will be lit on the top of the village church.

Finally on June 12 there will be a birthday party in Hillworth Park, Devizes, organised by the town council's parks team led by direct services manager Sarah Williams.

Live jazz will help get people in party mood from noon to 3pm. People are encouraged to come along in patriotic mood and dress to join in fun for all the family.

Mrs Williams said: "The team at Hillworth Park will be celebrating the Queen’s 90th Birthday with live jazz in the park and music from the past decades provided by our friends at Fantasy Radio.

"This is a free, family event supported by Devizes Town Council."

Nationally the Queen's official birthday celebrations will start on June 10 with a televised thanksgiving service at St Paul's Cathedral which will also honour the 95th birthday of the Duke of Edinburgh.

The following day as is usual the Queen's official birthday will be marked with the the Trooping the Colour military parade.

Queen Elizabeth will travel by carriage from Buckingham Palace to inspect her personal troops in Horse Guards Parade in a televised ceremony at 10am.

The Royal family will then appear on the balcony of the palace to watch a fly-past at 1pm.

On Sunday it will be the Patron's Lunch street party when The Mall outside Buckingham Palace will be turned into a huge street party with a picnic and street performances for 10,000 guests.

Most tickets have gone to charities and organisations of which the Queen is patron. But there will also be big screens in St James' Park and Green Park on the day.
