The UK's largest department store group John Lewis has donated £1,200 to assist schools in Malmesbury with their WOMAD project.
John Lewis has donated the sum to help Malmesbury School, Malmesbury Primary and Brinkworth Earl Danby with their creative Brazilian Adventure project which will be performed at Malmesbury Abbey in mid-July.
More than 100 students will be working with Escola De Carnaval to learn about Brazilian culture, its influence on music and dance and how to perform the country's traditional music over a series of workshops.
Malmesbury School's headteacher Tim Gilson said: "We are very grateful to the John Lewis Partnership for their generous support of this project. Our work with WOMAD provides the young people of Malmesbury and the surrounding area a unique opportunity to work alongside world class artists and to express their creativity and openness to the richness of other cultures. This year the Brazilian theme is of course particularly relevant and exciting."
Daniel Thuysbaert and Carrie Little from John Lewis presented their cheque to Mr Gilson and Mandy Adams from WOMAD stating they wanted to provide a legacy for students that could be used in future generations.
The first performance will take place at the Abbey on Tuesday, July 19 at 7pm and tickets are £3 for adults and £2 for concessions and festivalgoers will be able to catch the students opening WOMAD's main stage on Thursday, July 28 at 7pm.
