A MOTHER-OF TWO set herself on the path to her dream career today as she scooped a maths GCSE at age 34.

Budding nurse Kirsty Stewart, from Royal Wootton Bassett, only started studying maths at New College Swindon in January and has achieved a C grade in the subject.

“I want to go into nursing but when I took my GCSEs originally I walked away with an E - I never thought I could do it before,” said Kirsty.

“Getting this C is amazing. It means I can do my access course and it gets me one step closer to nursing. I’m so happy, I can’t actually believe it."

Kirsty was supported on the day by her two proud children Molly, eight and Alfie, five

New College saw great success among its 19+ adult learners. The overall pass rate across all subjects was 99 per cent with all adult learners passing GCSE Maths

In total 1,480 learners collected their GCSE results today.

Principal Graham Taylor paid tribute to the hard work of the students.

“Today’s results are a great achievement,” he said.

“The learners’ success reflects their hard work and enthusiasm and is a tribute to the teaching, support and pastoral care provided by all staff here. “

Success was also seen in the pre-16 students with a 100 per cent A*-C pass rate in six out of 18 subjects. There was also a 98 per cent pass rate across English and maths GCSEs.
