TEARS of joy from pupils of Lavington School’s Year 11 were a common scene as they received their GCSE results.

Pupils collected their results on Thursday (August 25) from the school, eagerly waiting to see how the last five years of their education had paid off.

Sarah Lowkiss, head of Lavington, said: “I am delighted, these are the best results. It shows how much hard work everyone has put in. We have really supportive parents and excellent teachers who work their hardest and give their support, there are some really lovely young people at this school.”

The school received a 77 per cent pass rate for maths and English as well as 31 per cent of the pupils receiving A*s to As, overall 87 per cent of the pupils were given grades A-C.

Charlie Shears, 16, who received four Cs and a B in his best scoring subjects, said: “I missed three years of school, most of year 7 because I moved to this school, I was expelled at Year 8 and missed most of 8 and 9. I am astonished to receive these results, I have the marks I need to go to Salisbury College. I want to be an accountant so my mark in maths was an excellent result.”

One of the pupils, Holly Faulkner, was over the moon after receiving 12 A*s over all her subjects and an A^ in further maths.

Holly, 16, said: “I am overwhelmed, this is the best thing that could’ve happened after five years of being at Lavington. I am going to Sheldon in Chippenham for my A-levels.”

George Hunt, 16, said: “I got five A*s, seven As and a B, I am over the moon, it wasn’t expected at all. I am just very happy. I will be going to St John’s in Marlborough so I can pursue engineering.”
