BOX kept up the pressure on Potterne at the top of Division One of the Wiltshire League with a 39-run victory over Cooper-Avon Tyres.

Former Wiltshire captain and Chippenham Town goalkeeper Steve Perrin, fresh from his mid-season switch from Corsham, hit 84 to steer Box to a sizeable 253-8 in 45 overs.

Opener Neil Pettit (53) and Gerald Hayward (64) also struck half centuries in a positive batting display.

Steve Rendell (2-36) and all-rounder Dean Wallington (2-33) were the pick of the Cooper-Avon bowlers.

In reply, the hosts raced to 84 in 20 overs before Wiltshire (32) edged behind to Richard Bryant off the bowling of Dave Crawford (3-42).

Hayward's (3-54) flight and guile posed plenty of problems for the Cooper-Avon top order, who lost their heads in the pursuit of quick runs. And when Simon Bailey holed out to a diving catch by Rob Styles for 50, Box had assumed control.

Cooper-Avon's hopes were effectively ended when the dangerous Wallington was run out by Styles for 10.

The collapse was halted temporarily by John Wiltshire (38) and Dave Light (29no), before Lewis Baxter (2-57) removed Wiltshire's middle stump.

Matt Hemmings finished unbeaten on 13 as Cooper-Avon closed their innings on 214-9, 39 runs short of their target.

Elsewhere, Calne struggled for runs after being asked to bat against Swindon Civil Service.

But an excellent 75-run partnership between Steve Richards (22) and Chris Downham (85) saw Calne increase the tempo, and reach a respectable total of 147 off their 45 overs.

Downham's innings, given the damp conditions, was top class and combined a mixture of gritty determination and glorious strokeplay. Andy Mildenhall (3-14) was the pick with the ball.

In reply, two good partnerships put the game out of Calne's grasp, with Painter (22) and Smith (45) putting on 33, and Townsend (45) and Smith contributing 76.

Luke Edwards bowled well for Calne (7-1-32-2) extracting some sharp turn, and James Smees bowled an excellent late spell (7-1-24-2).

Division Two

HOSTS Seagry clinched victory over Collingbourne with 11 balls to go.

The visitors were boosted by an early 59-partnership between opening batsmen Graham Chandler (56) and Ian Kiy (11).

Malcom Chandler (20) then joined his brother and took the score to 101 off 29 overs before watching his team capitulate to all out at 157 in the 44th over. Lancaster (1-28), Hewitt, (2-26), Morris (3-46) and Porter (3-42) all bowled well.

In reply, some early aggressive hitting from Thompsett (44) and a well balanced partnership between Ferd (55no) and Bailey (21no) steered Seagry home.

Ben Doherty (1-39), Tom Grant (2-28), Kiy (1-15) and Tom Pike (0-31) were the pick of the Bowlers.

Division Four

A STUNNING innings of 133 not out by Cameron Campbell saw Wilcot to victory against Devizes 3rds.

After being put into bat on a damp wicket, Wilcot slumped to 59-5 as Welling (3-53) made full use of the helpful conditions. At this point, Campbell, who had been initially circumspect, gave a masterclass in batting with the tail, marshalling the strike while also accelerating his scoring rate.

He hit 12 fours and three sixes, and formed a club record 105 partnership in 15 overs with Nick Patel (16no).

In reply, Devizes got off to a slow start against the accurate swing and seam of Campion and Fisher.

The introduction of backup seamers Campbell (3-12) and Gilbey (5-13) hastened the end of the proceedings, as some remarkable all-round fielding from Andy Swanston and the keen run-out of stalwart opener Stevens (27) by the energetic Campion meant that Devizes fell well short of the target. They were finally dismissed in the 36th over.

Division Five

NORTH Bradley romped to a 164-run victory over Calne.

Batting first, hosts Bradley posted 236-9 with half-centuries from Chris Fardell (72), Steve Eades (52) and Andrew Colebrooke (51).

Calne could only muster 72 in reply, with Sean Brown returning excellent figures of 5-23 off 12 overs.

Dauntsey came out on top in a close finish against Biddestone 3rds, despite a man of the match performance from Sam Boor.

Batting first, Dauntsey were 110-1 off 39 overs before a late flurry of wickets saw them dismissed for 137. Phil Davey (55) top-scored while Andy Marsh took one wicket for eight runs off 12 overs and Boor 6-18 from five.

Biddestone's reply fell 13 runs short despite an eighth wicket partnership between Boor (49) and Ed Hatherall. Harrow and Kingsbury both claimed three wickets for Dauntsey.

Division Six

CORSHAM 4th continue to impress, beating Bath Civil Service 2nd by three wickets to remain second.

Bath totalled 153-7 on a slow track, with opener Mark Thorne (44) the major contributor, while stand-in skipper Rob Carlin made a patient unbeaten 32.

Gareth Moorhouse (2-31), John Siggins (2-32) and Martin Hick (2-35) shared six of the seven wickets to fall.

Corsham survived the double early loss of John Gale (0) and James Walsh (0) to move to 71 in 19 overs, before a mini collapse left the result in the balance.

Tom Coles (44) looked in excellent touch before he offered a simple return catch to change bowler Bath.

It was left to Siggins (14no) and Moorhouse (10no) to steer Corsham home with three overs remaining.

Elsewhere in the division, Box 2nd recorded their first win of the season in what was to be Alan Joy's last ever game for the club. Joy hit a gritty 28 not out to help overhaul Cooper-Avon 2nd's 155 all out, with Rob Mason scoring 69 for Box.

Wootton Bassett 3rd dismissed Marshfield for 81 in a convincing nine-wicket win, with Paul Harris taking 3-4 off eight overs. Lewis Tryie (36no) and Sam Burdock (22no) put on 83 to take Bassett to their target.

Division Seven

BIDDESTONE 4ths continued their winning ways with a four-wicket triumph over visiting Trowbridge B, who batted first an made 121-7.

Biddestone wickets went to Neil Fleming (4-29) and Phil Knight (3-30), while Ben Copeland top-scored in the reply with 25. The target was reached in the 34th over.
