Air cadet Joshua Sheridan, 17, has won his wings to glide solo over Wiltshire.
Joshua, who is part of 2397 Devizes Sqn achieved his Gold Gliding Award with 622 Volunteer Gliding Squadron at Trenchard Lines, Upavon under the watchful eye of Wing Cdr Kevin Latchman, who was involved in the airlift from Afghanistan.
Over many weekends, Sgt Sheridan flew the Viking T1 Glider learning everything from the basics of turning to the more advanced winch launches and the landings.
He also had to learn essential emergency procedures such as launch failures and stalling
Sgt Sheridan has been going to the gliding school regularly since the beginning of August .
His Officer Commanding Flt Lt Barnaby Wiles said: “I’m really proud of Sgt. Sheridan and his achievement in gaining his Gold Gliding Wings through the current pandemic.
“He has shown what can be achieved by hard work and determination. All cadets can look to achieve the same level and I hope to see more Devizes cadets get their gliding wings.”
