A Wiltshire High Street’s Wilko store is holding an “administration sale” as the chain’s future hangs in the balance.

The ailing retail giant’s Chippenham High Street branch is one of many across the country holding the sale, with the Guardian reporting earlier this week that this could spread to all stores in the coming days.

A poster on the outside of the Chippenham shop is currently advertising the “Wilko administration sale” offering “1,000s of reductions throughout the store.”

The budget retailer entered administration earlier this month after failing to secure a rescue deal, putting around 12,500 jobs at more than 400 stores in jeopardy.

While Wilko announced they will continue to trade from all its stores “without any immediate redundancies”.

But Sky News reported on Monday that bidders have been set a deadline of Wednesday to table offers for the company.

PricewaterhouseCoopers was appointed as administrators last Thursday and are seeking offers by the middle of this week with Wilko reportedly running out of cash.

Multiple discount retailers and financial investors are believed to be considering offers.

A Wiltshire Wilko employee recently spoke of her “worry” about the future after the news.

She said: “We as staff are worried as we all have mortgages and rent to pay, it’s not like there are hundreds of jobs about.”
