An unlicensed driver smashed their car into a signpost while trying to escape police in Wiltshire.
The car was chased along the A4 between Corsham and Chippenham before coming to a halt at the Easton junction and then trying to make off on foot.
Police say they were on their way back to Corsham when they spotted the vehicle which the team had been looking for heading eastbound on Chequers Hill.
The driver, who only has a provisional licence, was detained shortly after the crash.
The occupant has been reported by police for failing to stop at a road traffic collision, driving otherwise in accordance with a license and driving without insurance.
The red Vauxhall Astra involved in the crash ended up on top of the sign which has been flattened, and the underside of the car has been damaged.
The vehicle has now been removed from the scene of the crash and traffic is flowing again as usual.
