A new wine store has officially opened in a Wiltshire town after a national retailer ended their four-year absence.
The new Majestic Wine store was opened at Old Foundry, on Foundry Lane in Chippenham, by town mayor Cllr Declan Baseley on the morning of Tuesday, October 24.
Majestic’s new 4,775sq foot shop is now open to the public and stocks over 1,200 wines, plus beers, spirits, soft drinks and snacks.
Customers can take advantage of free wine tastings seven days a week, which will be hosted by the store’s experienced colleagues, while click-and-collect and next-day delivery are also available.
The venue’s first ever customer, Stephanie Joannou, was thrilled with the reception.
She said: “It’s beautiful and slick and I love how comfortable I feel here already.
“I’ve had such a wonderful welcome and couldn’t ask for anything else, the position is perfect, and I feel like I can talk to everyone so I’ll definitely be coming back.”
Majestic CEO John Colley revealed the firm was excited to be returning to the town after several years away.
He said: “We realised soon after our acquisition by Fortress that the decision by former management to close our old store in Chippenham was the wrong one.
“There is huge appetite in the town for our unique, quality wines and the unparalleled advice and service that only our Majestic colleagues can offer, so we are delighted to finally be back.
“Everyone across the business is really excited about returning to Chippenham, and helping old and new customers enjoy the Majestic experience once again with our highly qualified in-store experts and award-winning wine ranges.”
The brand’s new Chippenham store is the third to open during this financial year and will be quickly followed by the launch of its first location in the Welsh town of Monmouth.
There are plans to continue growing Majestic’s store portfolio at a rate of one new shop per month, as part of a focus on “bricks and mortar” which has been key to the brand’s growth strategy since 2019.
Mr Colley added: “Majestic are huge champions of experiential retail and re-opening in Chippenham underlines our ongoing commitment to bricks and mortar.
“We are proud to be accelerating our pipeline of new store openings ahead of Christmas and are excited about becoming a part of even more communities across the UK in the coming months.”
