Two boys carrying knives while out in public caused concern in a Wiltshire town.

The 11-year-old and 12-year-old from Corsham each had a knife on them while outside on Halloween.

Police have now released a statement on the action taken after it was found the boys' intent was not to harm anyone when the alarm was raised by concerned witnesses.

A police spokesperson added: “The team got wind of what happened through their community contacts, and both males were invited in for an interview in company with their parents in relation to carrying a bladed article in a public place.

“Both of the young males fully owned up to the offence and admitted they were in the wrong, which is a testament to them at their age.

“Both sets of parents were supportive of police action and hopefully this is the first and last time for these boys, with the support of their parents and police intervention.

“The case will now sit with the youth referral intervention panel, which convenes every 12 weeks to discuss the best way to offer intervention and educate young people on the mistakes made.

“Carrying knives in Corsham and the surrounding villages will not be tolerated, regardless of your age.”
