A mum shouted for her daughter’s help while her boyfriend assaulted her in the bedroom.

Joshua Daffurn, 29, faced a charge of assault by beating after an argument with his on-off partner became physical.

Swindon Magistrates' Court heard from prosecutor Keith Ballinger that on January 28, 2024 the couple had been out drinking.

Once in the bedroom, the partner had tried to get up but Daffurn pushed her back onto the bed.

Mr Ballinger said: “She then screamed out for her daughter to come and help her.”

Daffurn, of Towpath Road, Trowbridge, cannot remember what they argued about and accepts that he pushed her.

Defending, Ms Hillier said he accepts he has a drinking problem, and suffers from depression and anxiety.

She said:  “He wants to focus on himself and get off the alcohol.”

Daffurn, who was wearing a hoodie and grey tracksuits in court on April 25, is now being helped by a charity which provides him with supported housing including personal and social support, with no plan to return to his ex-partner.

It was revealed that he previously assaulted an emergency worker in 2021.

The case was adjourned until June 4 at Salisbury Magistrates' Court while probation prepared a pre-sentencing report.

He was given conditional bail until then, the conditions being not to see three women, the relationship to whom was not disclosed.
