THOROUGHBRED racehorse Brian didn't quite know what to make of his pantomime counterpart in the run-up to this Sunday's special event at Bath racecourse in aid of Dorothy House Hospice Care.

Preparations for the Melksham and Corsham Round Table Handicap Stakes are well in hand as part of the family race day, starting at 1.30pm.

As the two horses grazed outside the racecourse's new stable blocks the preparation couldn't have been more different.

While Brian dined on hay, challenger Dorothy's Dream tucked into burgers and beer before cantering off down the course.

All this is in preparation for the third running of the Big Race, dreamed up by Round Table member Robert Knight.

The race, which will be run over one and a half furlongs and has 18 pantomime horses competing, will raise much-needed money for Dorothy House.

Mr Knight said: "I've had no trouble getting the necessary panto horses to run the race. The racecourse staff have been fantastic in supporting us."
