WILDCATS wing Sam Bullas is hoping that his team will be still be riding high going in to next weekend’s double-header with Guildford Flames.

Swindon claimed their first-ever away win at reigning champions Manchester Phoenix on Sunday as they battled back from 2-0 down to claim a dramatic shoot-out victory at the Altrincham Ice Dome.

That triumph followed up a cup win over Chelmsford Chieftains on Saturday. Now with Cats taking on the Flames both home and away next weekend, Bullas would love to see the Wildcats keep the bit between the teeth after their confidence-boosting win at Manchester.

“It’s early doors. (Sunday) was the first game of the regular season but it’s a great way to start,” said Bullas.

“Two points on the board is fantastic and we’ve just got to make sure we take that momentum and take it into the next game.

“All we have to do is keep on building on it and building on it until we end up getting to the play-offs and winning.

“It’s what we’re here to do. I play ice hockey because I love it but we are here to win and that’s what we always want to do.

“So for our first weekend, to get two wins is good for the confidence. We should use that confidence, take it into next weekend and hit them flying.”

The Swindon man added: “Manchester have always been a team to come out hard in the first period, especially in their own rink.

“It’s so tough to deal with, they come out so fast, and at the start of the game, we wanted to make sure that we didn’t concede.

“We did concede the early one, but we played it well in the first period, weathered the storm and then came out and proved our worth.

“Going 2-0 down is tough but we all came together as a team.

“In overtime, we were the only team that were going to win it – we were all over them.”
