JAKE Reeves believes that the secret to Swindon Town’s success is the relationship the players have with each other off the field.

The 21-year-old midfielder, who will be hoping to get his first appearance at the County Ground this evening when Oldham Athletic come to SN1, feels the young age of the current squad assembled by Mark Cooper is a big factor to how well they are playing.

The Robins currently find themselves in sixth place following Saturday’s fine 2-1 success at Bradford City and they are developing a reputation for their passing football.

Reeves, who joined the club at the end of last month on a short-term deal following his release from Brentford, feels it is all down to how they get on with each other away from football is key.

“I think that it helps (that we are all of a similar age), we grew up watching the same stuff and listening to the same stuff,” Reeves said.

“If you don’t get on off the pitch, why would you want to work for each other on the pitch, that is why the boys play so well together because everyone gets on so well.

“Everyone is different, everyone has their own sort of characteristics, you have got quiet lads and you have got jokers.

“Sometimes at other clubs they don’t let you in quite as easily as here. We are all quite young and we are all quite in the same boat.

“I’m just trying to be myself coming into a squad that is tight-knit. I get on well with them and I think that I complement them quite well.”

Having played a role in helping getting Brentford promoted to the Championship, Reeves admits he always knew that it was going to be tough to break into the Town starting XI.

With Australian international Massimo Luongo, Iraq international Yaser Kasim and homegrown talent Louis Thompson, who is back on loan at the club following his deadline day move to Championship side Norwich City, in front of him the former Tottenham youngster is just biding his time.

“It is going to be difficult (to get into Town’s midfield),” he said. “I was never expecting it to be easy to come into any side in League One and try and break in to it straight away.

“You have got to bide your time and if the gaffer gives that chance, I have got to try and show what I can do.

“Hopefully to get that on Tuesday and I will try and take that with both hands.”
