YOUNG star Floyd Taylor will be staying with the Swindon Wildcats for a fifth season after putting pen to paper on a new deal at the club.

The Great Britain U20 international began his career in the junior ranks at the Link Centre before making his breakthrough in the 2011-12 campaign.

He featured 29 times for the Cats’ senior side that season and has since gone on to make more than 150 appearances for the team.

The Swindon-born 20-year-old becomes the latest player to commit himself to Stevie Lyle’s new regime, although he is the final name from last season’s squad who will be back at the Link Centre next term.

That means Jonas Hoog, Tomas Kana, Michael Crisp and Alex Symonds will all follow the recently-retired Shane Moore out of the exit door.

Player-coach Lyle said: “Floyd missed an early part of last season with concussion but he is a solid, reliable player, who I wanted back in the roster this season.

“I’m delighted to have him back. Although still young, he brings a lot of experience.

“Floyd is the final player who was with us last season, who I’ve brought back to help us this year.

“It’s been a difficult decision but you have to make decisions and I wanted to freshen things up. Part of the role involves making hard choices. It’s part of the game and as players, we all realise that.

“I’d like to thank Michael Crisp, Alex Symonds, Jonas Hoog, Tomas Kana and Shane Moore for their services to the club over the years.

“Unfortunately, with the changes I’ve made and the budget we have to work to, I couldn’t re-sign everyone, but each of them will be a valuable asset to whichever club takes them on. I wish them all the best for the future.”

Taylor becomes the 19th player to commit themselves to the Cats for next season and Lyle has confirmed that his roster is close to being completed.

Swindon are expected to announce the final two names for their 2015-16 squad next week.

“I’ve got two new faces that I’ll be announcing in the coming week and then I will start giving more focus on the new season,” added Lyle.

“It’s been a new experience for me, but I’m happy with the players I’ve got and I’m now looking forward to the next challenge of getting the plans working on the ice.”
