SWINDON Panthers will be looking to become the Summer Cup champions tomorrow when they battle in a winner-takes-all game with Streatham.

The Panthers travelled down to Chelmsford last Saturday looking top secure at least a draw to set-up tomorrow’s battle.

The game in Essex saw the Panthers take the lead in the sixth minute through Brad Edginton.

However, that lead lasted for 61 seconds as the hosts drew level.

The second period started with both teams one man short and the opening five minutes was niggly.

The Hawks took the lead in the 23rd minute before the speedy Aron Dosa picked up the puck and skated round the defence to make it 2-2.

Once again the penalty count started to creep up and the Panthers conceded four goals to leaving them trailing 6-2 with barely 37 minutes on the clock.

However, the visitors rallied in the final two-and-a-half minutes of the period with Scott Gough pulling a goal back.

Matt Crouch reduced the arrears to 6-4 before Mark Balint added another for the Panthers.

In the final period, Hawks began to pile on the pressure and they were rewarded with their seventh goal of the match.

With two-and-a-half minutes remaining, the Panthers pounced.

Coach Wayne Fiddes reduced the score to 7-6 before Gary Loveday drew the visitors level after some good work from Gough and Balint.

Tomorrow’s game Streatham begins at 6.30pm with the winners moving into the play-offs next month.
