Swindon Town supporters were left split over what to make of their League Two campaign after 20 games played.

Town find themselves just one place outside the play-offs at this stage of the season, having scored a league-high 43 goals, but also conceding 36 goals, the joint third-most in the division.

After the dramatic conclusion to their 4-3 victory against Accrington Stanley last Tuesday, Swindon have had ten days to wait until their visit to AFC Wimbledon this weekend, giving everyone time to pause and mull over the first 20 games of the campaign.

Michael Flynn said that he felt the Accrington game was something of a microcosm of the season, with his side showing themselves to be “excellent at times, frustrating at others”, which has been borne out in a season that has already seen a run of nine games undefeated being followed immediately by Town winning just once in the next nine.

The Adver asked Swindon fans on X, Facebook, and the Adver website about what they had made of the season so far.

Town fans seem divided over what to make of the campaign, with some having enjoyed the constant drama and feeling the side is overperforming based upon pre-season expectations and others feeling that the deficiencies of the squad and squad building were costing them.

One consistent theme was apprehension over January, with many fearing that the likely departures of leading goal scorer Jake Young and leading assister Dan Kemp would derail the season.

Martin Crook was in the former camp and seems to have saved himself money on theme parks this year, as he said that watching Swindon had replaced the need to go to Alton Towers.

Darryl Smith said on X: “Now we know that the budget is not competitive, the league position is quite healthy. As for the performances, they're both horrific and exciting in equal measure. Oh, and two of our best players belong to League Two rivals. It's not a script I'd have written.”

Others, like Alex Clark on Facebook, countered that the season had been: “Poor again, a club like ours shouldn’t even be in this poxy league or should be walking it. So, to answer the question. Poor”

Darren Jackson concurred on X: “Started really well and played some exciting football, but once injuries and fatigue kicked in we have struggled as the players apart from first 11 are probably not up to the standard required.”
