Swindon Town lost their fifth game in six with a poor display away from home against Crawley Town on New Year’s Day.

Danilo Orsi netted early in both halves and Jake Roles also scored prior to Dan Kemp’s stoppage-time consolation as the final act of his Swindon career.

So, how did the players rate as individuals at the Broadfield Stadium?

GK: Lewis Ward – 3

Three shots on target and three goals for a player in the team on the back of their ability as a shot-stopper is not a great sign. Some of the defending hung him out to dry, but there is something he could have done for each of the goals.

RCB: Udoka Godwin-Malife – 5

One thing that Godwin-Malife will almost always bring is a bit of urgency. On the ball he was looking to drive Swindon forward when everyone else looked nervous of making another mistake. He couldn’t do it alone but there was more effort than those around him.

CB: Harrison Minturn – 2

With the way Swindon defend, it would have been Minturn’s job to deal with Orsi, I have to guess because that very rarely happened. Orsi was completely unmarked for both of his goals and went everywhere unchallenged. This was an average striker given the ability to do whatever he liked.

LCB: Williams Kokolo – 2

Coming in to start late on would have been difficult and it looked like Kokolo took a while to get ready as he looked very slow to react to the ball being played behind him for the first goal. It was abundantly clear that he is not a centre-back as Swindon were exposed down the left.

RWB: Remeao Hutton – 6

The only possible route to goal that Swindon had all game was Hutton beating Nick Tsaroulla and getting a ball in. He did this consistently and found Charlie Austin a number of times, but it felt like the crosses were requiring Austin to generate a lot of the power himself.

CM: Saidou Khan – 3

Khan is in one of his down spells right now as he goes missing in games all too often. As Michael Flynn retools this team over the next month, he needs to think about playing with another midfielder or finding a player who can be a true presence in the middle as Swindon get overrun all too often.

CM: Liam Kinsella – 3

The same goes for Kinsella as Adam Campbell and Jay Williams had a field day in the middle of the park. Both were able to make frequent driving runs through the middle as Kinsella and Khan couldn’t impose themselves.

LWB: Tyrese Shade – 3

Between Shade and Kokolo, Swindon never managed to keep Ronan Darcy and Will Wright quiet, as they were defensively all over the place. I knew not to get my hopes up too quickly about Shade as after two great displays, he was back to being on the periphery.

CAM: Dan Kemp – 5

It was nice for Kemp’s last touch to be a fine goal as one last reminder of what he can do. The rest of the match was less so as he tried to pick up the ball and get things going but things weren’t quite clicking. How he did not score at the end of the first half, I will never know.

ST: Charlie Austin – 5

By comparison with most of the team, Austin played fairly well. He was winning every header in the penalty area and tried to get a reaction from his teammates. He was more impactful than in the last two but nobody around him was helping him out.

ST: Jake Young – 3

The way Young’s loan spell with Swindon has ended is a bit sad. He has been limited by injury since Barrow and you can tell that in the way that he has been unable to run the channels and in behind as he was on his hot streaks. He also had an unexplainable miss towards the end which could have been a send-off of some description.

Subs:

Jake Cain – 4

As I have said before, Cain will always make some kind of impact when he comes on and he made a great run to get on the end of one of Town’s better chances. As it stands he will be starting in Kemp’s role on Saturday and that has to be a tall order for anybody.

George McEachran – 3

I could not really tell you what McEachran did after coming on. The game was over by the time of his introduction and neither team really fancied playing too hard in the rain.

Anton Dworzak – N/A
