AS chairman of the Devizes fundraising committee of Cancer Research UK, I would like to thank all those who so generously supported our two recent events, the coffee morning with sale at West Lavington on May 7 that raised £1,275 and the country house car boot sale on May 14 that raised £4,643.

I would also like to thank everyone who worked hard to make the two events so successful, whether they baked cakes, manned stalls or arrived at the crack of dawn at Stert to direct stall holders and buyers for the car boot sale.

With regard to the car boot sale, special thanks are due to A G Edwards & Son and Grist Group for their kind donation of the use of the site and the Portaloos respectively; Stert Church for opening up their church for coffee, cakes and plants; and those who live in Stert and accept the inconvenience of the one-way system through the village for the duration of the event.

This year’s coffee morning in West Lavington was a rather poignant affair as Mary Diccox, who had organised the event in recent years and made it so successful, had died of cancer only the week before.

The money raised will go towards the research for ways to fight cancer with that raised at the coffee morning being earmarked for pancreatic cancer.
